‘Citywide’ is a 33 minute film made for the Citywide Drugs Crisis Campaign organisation. It describes Citywide’s work and the story behind the drugs crisis in Dublin and Ireland as it evolved from the 1980s to 2012. Citywide is a national network of community activists and organisations that are involved in responding to the Irish drug problem and associated issues. The film includes interviews with a wide range of people from around Ireland who work with the problem of drug abuse, archive film, photographs including the work of Derek Speirs and actuality of inner city and suburban areas in Dublin, Waterford and Limerick. Citywide was set up in 1995 by the Inner City Organisations Network (ICON) to bring together Dublin communities that were struggling with the heroin epidemic. Citywide now work nationally, linking communities across the country dealing with a range of substance abuse issues.
