Sometime City’ is a 37 minute urban drama set in an unnamed Dublin suburb in the mid 1980s. Maria (Michelle Holden) and Peter (David O’Meara), a vulnerable young couple are trying to make a home for themselves and their two young children in a new area of Dublin. For the first time they are all together. Paul (Pat Nolan) is a social worker employed by a local social work department rocked by government cut backs and publicity about heroin addiction. Maria first meets Paul when she looks for childcare support. He fails to get her the support she needs as her relationship with Peter disintegrates in the face of his escalating addiction problems. Paul then begins to question her ability to care for her children and in so doing betrays the trust Maria had in him and the system she thought was there to support her and her children. ‘Sometime City’ was a City Vision Production for RTE and the Irish Film Board it was also supported by the Arts Council.
